About the Artist

Marlie Reny is a fiber artist whose work is deeply rooted in nature and a love for sustainable creativity. Specializing in weaving and needle felting, she embraces natural and recycled materials, often incorporating elements like driftwood into her pieces. Much of her yarn is sourced from women-owned small businesses, celebrating the unique artistry of handspun art yarns that frequently inspire her work. Each piece begins with a thoughtfully curated color palette, transforming these fibers into expressions of the landscapes and textures she holds dear.

For the past 20 years, Marlie has lived abroad and across the country, drawing inspiration from her travels, including her most recent time in the Pacific Northwest. Her journey has informed her creative perspective, blending influences from diverse landscapes and cultures. Now back in her hometown of Round Pond, Maine, Marlie finds inspiration in the familiar beauty of the region, channeling its essence into her work.

About the Name

The name, Suculente, pronounced soo-koo-lehn-teh, is a playful nod to the Spanish word for succulent, reflecting Marlie’s other passion: nature and gardening. She’s particularly drawn to succulents for their incredible variety and their symbolic meaning of endurance and strength, themes that resonate deeply with her art.
